Do you need to enroll in Original Medicare first?

Medicare has two main starting parts: Part A and Part B. Many people are automatically enrolled in Part A at age 65, but some still need to actively sign up, especially if they are not already receiving Social Security or if they want Part B coverage for doctor visits and outpatient care. You can sign up through the Social Security website.

1

Already getting Social Security?

You may already be automatically enrolled in Part A when you turn 65. Review your Medicare start details so you know exactly when your coverage begins.

2

Not receiving Social Security yet?

You will usually need to actively apply for Medicare Parts A and B through Social Security online, by phone, or through a local office.

Enrollment windows

When can you enroll in a Medicare plan?

These are the main enrollment periods most people use when signing up for or changing Medicare coverage.

Initial Enrollment Period

Your first 7-month window

Your Initial Enrollment Period is the 7-month window around your 65th birthday. This is often the first opportunity to enroll in coverage without waiting for another major window.

Annual Enrollment Period

October 15 to December 7

Each year, this is the main window to review and change Medicare plans if your needs, prescriptions, or doctors have changed.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment

January 1 to March 31

If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, this window may give you another chance to make a plan change early in the year.

How it works

How the enrollment process works

The best enrollment experience is simple, clear, and personalized. Instead of guessing which plan fits, walk through the process one step at a time with local help.

01

Review Your Options

Decide between Original Medicare with a Supplement and Part D plan, or a Medicare Advantage plan.

02

Get Expert Help

Compare plan options, check your doctors and prescriptions, and make sure deadlines are not missed.

03

Enroll With Confidence

Get step-by-step help through the application and enrollment process with support at no extra cost to you.

Why local help matters

Make enrollment easier with a local specialist

Instead of trying to sort through plan details alone, work with someone who can explain your choices clearly, help verify provider access, and keep the process organized from start to finish.

Check doctors and prescriptions

Make sure the plans you are considering fit your real healthcare needs, not just the lowest premium on paper.

Stay on top of deadlines

Know which enrollment window applies to you and avoid unnecessary delays or coverage gaps.
